LIFESTYLE | La Tavernetta

recently I went up to Southampton with my family to Shrek the Musical (it was actually better than I thought it would be but that is another subject!) and whilst we were up there we looked for somewhere to eat, and we came across this little restaurant tucked away called La Tavernetta. it was tucked away on a main road and is a little gem. with two floors of dining, a contemporary but rustic feel and fantastic food and service it is an ideal location for a date, a girls night out, or a family meal.

you are instantly greater by a friendly face and taken to a table, and the staff cannot do enough to help you. the menu is well laid out, with something for everyone - from starters to mains, pasta to pizza, steak to fish, you can always find something you like. being made from scratch with fresh ingredients on the premise makes the food taste even better too. it is well laid out, with a few tables on each floor but space you can move around and not feel crowded. I noticed the interior decoration was contemporary, with deep teal and patterned papers on the walls, with frames that had pictures or plain paint in in a jumbled fashion, it was just a very welcoming atmosphere.

the food itself was quick and well flavoured. I chose buffalo mozzarella to begin with and a fish linguine dish that had mussels, scallops, calamari, prawns and salmon in. we also had some garlic bread for the table which came with the main. I was surprised that i struggled to find something to eat, and I thought I would try something different with the buffalo mozzarella, and try something I knew but would be different with my main. the meal was quickly prepared and arrived hot (where the dish was hot) and was well presented with garnish where necessary. there was plenty of flavour and textures to appeal to any pallet, and there wasn't too much that you couldn't finish - the portion sizes were very fair and after having a starter and a main I felt full.

if you find yourself down my neck of the woods any time soon, I suggest looking this place up and going for a meal here. the staff are wonderful, the food is beautiful and the atmosphere is always just right for what you want out of it. it is somewhere I would definitely go again to enjoy a meal.
